This is a really warm and welcoming cottage perfect as a holiday home as it is, however if you want to expand the accommodation it could easily be done. The plans exist to convert the attic into two further bedrooms and bathroom. A “jewel” of a property today with a future if desired.
A pretty front courtyard greets you on arrival with the barn and sheds to one side and the bread-oven (in excellent condition) and the well to the other, surrounded by a small wall. Entry into the house is through the front door into a small vestibule with cupboard. Step into the kitchen which has some fitted cabinets and room for a table. The back door takes you onto the patio and rear garden. To the left is the living room with oak beams, stone fireplace with wood-burner stove fitted, potager (original slow cooker) parquet floor and double glazed French doors to the garden. To the right is the corridor with entrance to the double bedroom, door to the stairs down to the cellar and the modern shower-room and toilet. At the end of the corridor is another doorway which opens to a staircase to the first floor. There is also another door here to the front courtyard. Upstairs is the attic storage (or conversion) space and the second double bedroom. There are windows to the front and rear here which give lots of light.
The house has been well maintained over the years, recently having a new roof fitted and the shower-room redone and decorated throughout inside and out. The garden to the rear is mainly down to grass and the courtyard has the flowerbeds. A perfect holiday home with little or no work to be done.
The village is small but is 3 km from Rom with its bar/general store. The market towns of Lezay and Couhé for more general shopping needs are about 10 minutes drive away. The department’s capital (country town) Poitiers with all the shops and facilities, restaurants, cinemas etc. etc. you could need, including the TGV and airline links to the UK, is about 45 minutes away. ©
