In 1997 when Papillon first started these classic Charantaise fermettes (small farmhouses) were 10 a franc but today more like hens teeth, difficult to find in an original (basic) condition not restored within a cm of their French life with a price to match. Some work has been done in the early 2000’s and there is a fitted kitchen and a bathroom and toilet, although the septic tank will need to be brought up to today’s legislation it does function perfectly satisfactorily. It has been a much loved family holiday home for the past 12 years or so, but now life has moved on and so it is on the market.
Entrance is into the hub of the house, the kitchen/living room with fitted corner kitchen and fireplace, then you step into the large lounge beyond which is the dining room and a downstairs bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet. Stairs take you to the first floor where there is plenty of height under the beams and the 3 large bedrooms, mezzanine and store-room. A second staircase leads down from the mezzanine to the kitchen. The roof needs to be renewed and the water ingress through the roof is evident in some places and has degraded the flooring in others.
There is an attached garage and two further outbuildings, one of which had been a cottage in the very distant past, now used as workshops and storage. There is a sheltered courtyard to the front of the house and a long garden at the end. This is mainly down to grass, shrubs and fruit trees. Set in a hamlet of half a dozen other properties it is a short drive to the towns of Charroux, Savigné or Civray for all your normal living needs. Poitiers and Limoges are about 1 hrs drive away with their city shops, rail and air international links to the UK. ©
