Despite being in the village this beautiful "Master's House" exudes a sense of calm and peace. Although for some it would be considered in need of updating, I personally loved the 1930's feel of the bathroom and kitchen fitments, the rest of the house reflects the quality of build and finish achieved during the time of its build in 1884 - so the date over the coach-house door informs us. However, the current owners invested in a complete re-wire 12 years ago, so no shortage of sockets anywhere. The house also benefits from oil fired central heating and two wood-burning stoves to augment the heating and give a focal point in the rooms.

Entrance through the imposing front door is into a hallway which takes you through the house and, if you want, out the back into the garden. There are some lovely touches of wrought ironwork as part of the decor and the stair banisters. Doors open off the hall, right to the office, left to the lounge. Further into the house the door on the right takes you to the dining room (the previous owner's bedroom) with the '30's extension at the rear of bathroom and toilet. To the left you enter the kitchen and from there to the utility room and internal access to the old coach-house now used as garage etc.

Upstairs are the four bedrooms, the ones on the right benefit from wash-basins and with mains drainage it would be simple to fit a new bathroom/en-suite as you will. All the rooms are a good size. The door from the landing takes you onto the balcony with its lovely views of the garden and fields beyond. The next flight of stairs go up into the attic - a vast space where imagination can blossom. Beneath the house are two cellars cut from the bedrock that this house is built on.

The garden is designed to give seating areas for quiet contemplation, and there is certainly room for a pool if that is what you want. In a small Charentaise village with bar/restaurant, village shop, post office and a hairdressers, a chance to experience the best of rural France in the best house in the village. It is a short drive to Champagne Mouton for more general day to day requirements, and the towns of Confolens, Ruffec and Civray are all close. Limoges airport is under 1 hour away for flights to the UK. ©
