If a kitchen is the heart of a house then the garden is its soul and this property meets both requirements perfectly. I was not surprised when the owners told me that clients return to their gîte year on year - the outlook and position of this house is wonderful, on top of being an attractive cottage in its own right.

There is a choice of entrances, but the usual one is into the kitchen which I am sure a designer would call rustic chic, it combines a sense of cottage permanence, comfort and timelessness and includes the first of the wood-burning stoves.. Step from the kitchen into the living/dining room with its impressive stone fireplace with another stove, a great place to curl up with a good book, or entertain friends on those winter nights. Exposed stone walls, beams and features abound through the property. From the lounge into the music room at the foot of the stairs which take you up, round the beams, to the two double bedrooms and bathroom. Back downstairs and on the far side of the house is the fitted kitchen/living room of the gîte, with two double bedrooms and shower unit on the ground floor and up the stairs to the mezzanine and further shower room. Next to the gîte is the barn-woodstore etc. whilst at the other end of the house is the garage.

However it is the garden which amazes, the house turns it back on the road, and so the outlook is green, the garden, meadow, woodland and fields beyond. Walk out of the front door and continue the walk through the countryside of this lovely area which changes with the seasons. The garden is divided between flowerbeds, shrubs and vegetable plots and has been maintained organically for the past 10 years. It also has a plunge pool which although it has a new liner has not been used for five years, but could easily be put back into use.

It is a short drive to the market towns of Civray or Champagne Mouton for everyday living needs, and about 1 hour to the cities of Poitiers, Angouleme or Limoges for more extensive shopping, restaurants or cultural activities. All the cities have TGV links to Paris and London whilst Poitiers and Limoges have low-cost airlines utilising their airports. ©
